Hans Hartung (1904 -1989) was a German-French painter, known for his gestural abstract style. Hartung was born in Germany moved to Paris in 1935 and became a French citizen in 1946. Hartung began painting in 1922 and formulated his own abstract style and gets associated with post-war Art Informel artists such as Karel Appel, Jean-Paul Riopelle, and Jean Dubuffet . He is one of the most acclaimed European painters of the 20th century.
