Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901) came from a wealthy family and became a prominent French painter and lithographer. After breaking both legs as a child, he focused on drawing and painting. He studied art in Paris in 1882 and met influential artists like Vincent van Gogh and Edgar Degas. By 1889, he exhibited his work at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris and Brussels. Toulouse-Lautrec skillfully captured the vibrant nightlife of Montmartre, using thinned oil paint on unprimed cardboard.
